In Conversation – Stories of Living Together from Korea and Australia
Presented in partnership with Arts Council Korea (ARKO), Sydney Writers' Festival, and Creative Australia. Moderated by Australian–Korean comedian Harry Jun, this special session brings together five acclaimed children’s authors—Hynmin Park, Hyewon Kyung, Suyeon Lee, Susanne Gervay OAM, and Antonia Pesenti—from Korea and Australia for an engaging conversation on nature, animals, and the environment. Through their work, the authors explore how children’s literature can encourage curiosity, empathy, and a deeper understanding of the world we share. Discover how storytelling helps young readers connect with nature and learn the importance of living together in harmony. The In Conversation program will be followed by a networking opportunity, inviting audiences to continue the discussion and connect with speakers and fellow attendees. Harry Jun is a Sydney-based comedian who grew up in Wollongong and began performing stand-up in 2017. He has appeared at major venues across Australia and was a RAW Comedy NSW State Finalist in 2019 and 2020. In addition to stand-up, he writes cartoons and hosts the FBi Radio show Passed Notes, where he shares school stories from guests and listeners.

2026 Sydney Writers' Festival Event Period 17 May 2026 - 24 May 2026
Presented in partnership with Sydney Writers' Festival Sydney Writers' Festival returns this May with an exciting program featuring two acclaimed Korean authors. Bora Chung, author of The Midnight Timetable and Cursed Bunny, and Susan Choi, Korean American writer and author of Flashlight will both take part in the festival. 2026 Auckland Writers Festival Event Period 12 May 2026 - 17 May 2026
Presented in partnership with Auckland Writers Festival The Auckland Writers Festival returns this May as one of the Southern Hemisphere’s leading celebrations of literature and ideas. It brings together acclaimed writers and thinkers from around the world for a programme of conversations, readings, and live events. This year, Korean author Bora Chung, author of The Midnight Timetable and Cursed Bunny, and translator Shanna Tan, who has worked on titles including Welcome to the Hyunamdong Bookshop by Hwang Boreum, will be joining the festival. DATE & TIME: WED 18 FEB, 7:00 PM-8:30 PM & FRI 20 FEB, 6:30 PM-7:30 PM 2026 VENUE: The State Library Victoria & The Korean Cultural Centre Australia BOOK OF THE MONTH: Art on Fire by Yun Ko-eun Programs: – In conversation with Yun Ko-eun: A special conversation with Yun Ko-eun, presented in collaboration with the State Library Victoria, will take place on Wednesday, 18 February. The discussion will be moderated by Beverley Wang, host of ABC Radio National and a journalist. – Korean Book Club: The first Korean Book Club of 2026 will be held at the Korean Cultural Centre Australia. Yun Ko-eun will be in conversation with Michaela Kalowski, an interviewer, moderator and curator for writers. GUEST: Yun Ko-eun is the winner of the 2021 CWA Dagger for Crime Fiction in Translation, becoming the first Asian writer to receive this award. Her prize-winning novel The Disaster Tourist was shortlisted for the Science Fiction and Fantasy Rosetta Awards, the Comedy Women in Print Awards, the Dublin Literature Award and is currently being developed into a film. She has published four short story collections and five novels, three of which have been translated into English. FEE: Free admission but bookings essential.
