About the Artist: Lee Jeong-hwa Lee Jeong-hwa is a prominent young calligrapher based in South Korea, known for expressing the inner emotions of individuals through her calligraphy. She has contributed calligraphy to popular TV dramas such as “Mr. Sunshine,” “Hotel Del Luna,” and “Moon Embracing the Sun,” as well as films like “The King’s Letters” and “The Sound of a Flower,” bridging traditional art with contemporary culture. She has also performed and taught calligraphy in over 15 countries worldwide, held various exhibitions, and published a calligraphy-related book. “Calligraphy is not merely an art of black and white. Celebrate the harmony of Hangeul and craft in this hands-on activity where creativity meets cultural heritage. All materials will be provided, and no previous embroidery experience is needed. The Korean Cultural Centre Australia is hosting the “King Sejong the Great’s Birth Commemoration Day – Silkscreen Painting Workshop” on 15 May 2025, in celebration of the newly designated Korean National Holiday starting in 2025, which commemorates ‘the birth of King Sejong the Great’. This day honours his remarkable achievements and aims to preserve and advance his humanitarian values, spirit of independence, and practical vision. All materials will be provided, and participants will have the chance to honour his legacy while engaging in a creative activity. In celebration of the upcoming Hangeul Day (9th October), the Korean Cultural Centre Australia will host the “2024 Hangeul Day Workshop” on 4th October.  This event will be a meaningful opportunity to reflect on the creation and historical significance of Hangeul, while commemorating its beauty and importance. We warmly invite you to join us and take part in this special celebration. Participants will craft ceramic plates in the shape of Taegeuk patterns and decorate with their names in Hangeul. (As pottery work involves drying and firing processes, participants will be able to collect their finished pieces from the KCC approximately 1 month after the event.) – Performance by the Korean Traditional Ensemble ‘PURĚ’ All participants of the Hangeul Day Workshop will have the opportunity to enjoy a special performance by the Sydney-based Korean traditional instruments ensemble ‘PURĚ.’  Experience the pure and clear charm of Korean traditional music in the beautiful Hanok space at the KCC.
