Experience the ‘Taste of Jang’
The Korean Cultural Centre Australia presents a special program introducing Korea’s traditional culture of making Jang (장, fermented sauces), which is inscribed on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Participants will learn about various Korean fermented foods and the culture of Jang, including Gochujang (고추장, red chili paste), Doenjang (된장, soybean paste), and Ganjang (간장, soy sauce). They will also have the opportunity to enjoy cooking demonstrations, tastings, and hands-on practice using these traditional sauces. DATE & TIME: ●Session 1: Wednesday, 6 May 2026, 11:00 am – 1:30 pm ●Session 2: Wednesday, 6 May 2026, 6:00 pm – 8:30 pm ※ The same program will be offered in each session. VENUE: Korean Cultural Centre Australia (Ground Floor, 255 Elizabeth St, Sydney) PROGRAM DETAILS: ●Theory: Introduction to Korean Jang – types, characteristics, and traditional fermentation techniques ●Tasting: Explore the three fundamental Korean Jang and their derived sauces and dishes (non-vegan) ●Cooking: Hands-on practice – Samsaek Namul (Three-coloured seasoned vegetables) REGISTRATION: To join the program, please click HERE to apply. The Korean Cultural Centre Australia has partnered with the National Museum of Australia to present a special limited-edition Korean menu, available only during the ‘Hallyu! The Korean Wave’ exhibition. Korean Cultural Centre is excited to host a special program introducing Korean Temple Food, highlighting the philosophy and flavours behind this deeply rooted and mindful culinary tradition. Presented in partnership with the Cultural Corps of Korean Buddhism—a Korean government organisation specialising in Korean Temple Food—this session will be led by the visiting Ven. Donghwa from Korea, and the program will include a lecture and a live demonstration of selected dishes, followed by a tasting. This experience offers a unique opportunity to explore Korean culinary wisdom. TASTE OF JEJU: WHEN LIFE GIVES YOU TANGERINES, MAKE KOREAN SWEETS! Event Date 16 Apr 2025
Inspired by the popular drama ‘When Life Gives You Tangerines (폭싹 속았수다)’, which is set on Jeju Island, this event celebrates the flavours of Jeju through a special culinary experience featuring its iconic fruit—tangerines. Attendees will enjoy a cooking demonstration of authentic Korean sweets made with tangerines, and explore Jeju’s stunning scenery and cultural charm as a travel destination. ●TIME & DATE: 18:00 PM – 19:30 PM (AEST), Wednesday 16th April 2025 ●VENUE: Korean Cultural Centre Australia (Ground Floor, 255 Elizabeth St, Sydney) ●PROGRAM: 🍊 Tangerine Sweets Demonstration & Tasting: Watch a live cooking demonstration by an expert chef, showcasing traditional Korean sweets called Jeonggwa (정과) made with tangerines. Attendees will also have the opportunity to taste these delightful treats.
