The Korean Cultural Centre Australia (Director: Sunmin Yoon, hereafter ‘KCCAU’) successfully hosted Behind the Sound: Exploring Music in K-Content from Thursday 18 to Friday 19 September, offering participants a unique opportunity to discover and experience how music is created for Korean films and dramas. The program invited music director Minju Lim from YG Entertainment, who shared insights into the production process of music used in various Korean films and TV dramas. Participants also took part in interactive sessions where they matched music to specific scenes themselves. Through two sessions, Director Lim explained the differences between film and drama scoring, and how music enhances and conveys emotions and messages within a scene—captivating the attention of local audiences. On the first day, 18 September (Thu), a seminar was held for students majoring in Film and Music Production at the University of New South Wales (UNSW). Students learned hands-on how music selection can alter the atmosphere of a film scene by choosing appropriate tracks for specific moments. Allen, a participating student, shared, “It was meaningful to witness and experience the professional music production process firsthand.” On 19 September (Fri), a public session was held at the KCCAU for local audiences and music industry professionals. Director Lim remarked, “Inspiration can come from everything around us, and anyone can be a creator.” He then led an interactive session where participants experimented with pairing different pieces of music to film scenes. Participants experienced firsthand how the tone and emotion of a scene could shift dramatically depending on the music chosen—truly feeling the power of music. Attendee Fidel Badiola commented, “It was inspiring and insightful to hear from an industry expert. I gained a lot of motivation from his experience and stories.” The event concluded with a lively Q&A session, where participants asked questions ranging from their general curiosity about Korean content to specific topics they learned about through the program. Director Sunmin Yoon stated, “It was a meaningful opportunity to share the creative process behind globally acclaimed K-content and address the curiosity of local audiences,” adding, “We plan to continue introducing diverse behind-the-scenes stories of K-content to Australian audiences.” |
