Korean Author Yun Go-eun Charms Audiences in Melbourne and Sydney

– Witty satire and vivid imagination bring local fans to their feet

The Korean Cultural Centre Australia (Director Sunmin Yoon) kicked off its 2026 literary program with acclaimed author Yun Go-eun, hosting back-to-back events in Melbourne on February 18 and Sydney on February 20. The Melbourne event was held in collaboration with the State Library Victoria, marking the first literary partnership with the institution. 

Award-Winning Author Connects with Fans
Yun, celebrated for her Dagger Award-winning novel The Disaster Tourist—making her the first Asian recipient of the prestigious UK crime writing honor—shared insights into her year-long creative process. Audiences heard her reflections on art and storytelling, alongside personal experiences that inspired her work, all delivered in her signature witty, engaging style.

Melbourne: Mee the Author at the State Library Victoria
The Melbourne session featured ABC Radio host Beverly Wang as moderator, guiding the conversation and exploring Yun's work from multiple angles. The event coincided with the library's 170th anniversary, addng extra significance to the celebration.

Sydney: Opening the 2026 Book Club Program 
In Sydney, the event served asthe inaugural session of the Centre’s 2026 book club program. Attendees of all ages joined a lively discussion on Art On Fire and participated in a book signing in collaboration with local bookstore Gertrude & Alice, fostering a warm, personal connection between the author and her readers.

Promoting Korean Literature Abroad
Director Sunmin Yoon said, "These events offered a meaningful opportunity to introduce Korean literature to wider audiences and connect local readers with a Korean author directly. We are excited to continue showcasing Korean literature and culture internationally."

Korean Cultural Centre Australia (KCC AU)
The KCC AU is a non-profit organisation established by the South Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in April 2011 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Australia and Korea.
