"It feels like I'm in Korea today"

– K-Fest: Korean Cultural Festival celebrates Hallyu! The Korean Wave at the NMA
– Broadening the reach of K-culture through exhibitions, programs, and partnerships

The Korean Cultural Centre Australia (Director Sun-min Yoon, hereafter “the Centre”) is playing a leading role in promoting Korean culture through a dynamic lineup of programs held in conjunction with Hallyu! The Korean Wave at the National Museum of Australia (hereafter “the Museum”).

On April 11, the K-Fest: Korean Cultural Festival was successfully held, attracting more than 5,000 visitors. The event offered a vibrant mix of activities, including Korean street food stalls, traditional music and K-pop performances, interactive workshops, hanbok experiences, and Jinju silk lantern installations—drawing enthusiastic participation from attendees.

Through close collaboration with the Museum from the early planning stages, the Centre has successfully delivered a range of well-received programs. During the festival, three Korean calligraphy workshops were held, all of which reached full capacity. Participants decorated artworks inspired by the butterfly motif of the official APEC 2025 Gyeongju emblem and took part in a guided Hangul writing session led by instructor Yanghoon Kim, offering an engaging introduction to the Korean language and culture.

The Centre also supported collaboration between KOTRA (Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency) and the Museum, enabling the sale of K-pop merchandise, Korean cosmetics, apparel, and other Korean products at the museum shop. In addition, Australia’s public broadcaster SBS, in partnership with the Museum and at the Centre’s suggestion, set up an on-site studio to live broadcast the event. Interviews with Director Sunmin Yoon and Chargé d’Affaires Jimin Kim of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Australia were also featured.

Director Sunmin Yoon commented, “It was a meaningful opportunity to witness the strong local interest in Korean culture firsthand. We will continue to collaborate with various partners to further share the richness of Korean culture.”

Looking ahead, on April 18, the Centre and the Museum will host a special dance workshop and talk program featuring renowned K-pop choreographer KINKY.
